Edict for courts and registries of court
Issue Certified True Copies, marriage and divorce certificates, letters of administration and certified orders from one tracked process — and let the bank, embassy or counsel checking them verify from the code instead of writing to your registry.
Your day, as it is now.
A litigant’s clerk queues at the counter for a Certified True Copy. The fee is paid in cash and receipted by hand. The file goes to a records officer, then to a reviewing officer, then into the Chief Registrar’s signing pile. Meanwhile a solicitor in another state writes to ask whether a certificate produced in evidence is genuine, and someone has to find the register and reply. Nobody can say, at any moment, how many requests are open or how long the average one has been waiting.
Documents you can issue.
You define these yourself — their fields, numbering and printed layout. Add anything your institution issues that isn't listed.
- Certified True Copy
- Marriage certificate
- Divorce certificate
- Certificate of no impediment
- Letter of administration
- Certified court order
- Affidavit
- Probate certificate
Who authorises, and how
The Chief Registrar authorises with a personal signing PIN. Repeated failed attempts lock that officer’s signing capability. The audit log records who authorised what and when, and it is append-only — entries cannot be edited or removed. The issued file carries the authorised signature block from your registry’s settings and a cryptographic hash of the exact bytes, so any later alteration is detectable.
Correction, revocation, re-issuance
Revoke a document and its code returns REVOKED. Annul a record and the record is closed. Issue an amendment and the corrected document supersedes the original — the old code then returns REVOKED and names the document number that replaced it, which is the answer counsel actually needs when two versions are in circulation.
Verification, from their side
Anyone scanning the code on a document your registry issued reaches a verification page under your registry’s own name and, if you want, your own domain. They get one of five answers. Firms and banks that check at volume can be registered for API access and, on Professional and Enterprise plans, charged for it — with the revenue going to the registry.
Scale and structure
Divisions and judicial divisions run as branches under one institution, each with its own numbering sequence, staff and counter, reporting into one set of figures for the Chief Registrar.
Fees you can account for
Applicants pay through Paystack, Flutterwave or Remita and receive an automatic receipt. Cash at the counter is recorded in the same ledger. Funds settle to the court’s own account at the gateway; Edict never holds them.
